This is my home for fleeting and short thoughts.

Been using Finch for…
Been using Finch for a few days now and I like how it gamifies household chores for me. It makes me take stretching and breathing breaks more frequently, but I won't be using it for stuff other than daily household and self-care stuff I lowkey dread.

The newest Mitski single…
The newest Mitski single I'll Change for You is so much better the one that came before. The melodies are as heavenly as on Heaven or Star and the atmospherics as ethereal as elevator music, weirdly enough. Where's My Phone sounded and felt too much like I Don't Like My Mind which I adored and still do to this day, however, I've learned to appreciate my mind a little more than when the latter came out so neither resonate with me as much anymore.

A right-wing grifter like…
A right-wing grifter like Ashley St. Clair going full 180° was not on my "happened during my lifetime" bingo card. Her serving us a class analysis even less. Wow. Especially blown away by her critique of AI as the final stage of labor extraction.

Some things are sometimes…
Some things are sometimes so exceptionally stupid that a parody is impossibly out of reach because the object of ridicule is causing a rapid loss of brain cells.
-
My Fastmail contacts refuse…
My Fastmail contacts refuse to sync over CardDAV to my iPhone running iOS 26. Weirdly enough, all my shared contacts sync, but not my personal ones. So annoying. Don't wanna go back to using iCloud for this!

Is the laughing emoji…
Is the laughing emoji (😂) experiencing a renaissance among the Gen Z population? Cuz I've seen it used unironically so often the past couple of months.
-
Xaya taught me another…
Xaya taught me another torture technique that I knew about but had never applied to myself: the panopticon. By streaming what I do, I hold myself accountable-someone might catch me being sidetracked. The yt/x productivity gurus fear me, or should at the very least.

I have a crazy…
I have a crazy idea for when I'm demotivated (inspired by a torture technique described in The Shock Doctrine, lmfao): I'll deprive myself of stimuli for a few minutes by covering my eyes with a sleeping mask and using my AirPods with noise cancellation on. That way, anything I do afterward will be more satisfying than my state under "torture."

I wonder whether this…
I wonder whether this woman is still alive and how she's doing!
-
I think about this…
I think about this video at least once a month, not because I agree, but because everything about it is so… preppy and disgusting at the same time. So, Twitter's "I'm not like other girls" vibes. In another life, this diva would have been in Grimes' place; she'd be dropping mini-Elons like loot.

I'm currently debating…
I'm currently debating reinstating some of my old posts from my old blog. I'm tending toward doing it, but I might have to polish and clean them before putting them up.
-
Need to stop saying…
Need to stop saying "this year" when talking about 2025. We're 14 hours into the new year already 🤓
-
It is so jarring…
It is so jarring hearing an Emirati radio host speak of ChatGPT as an agent of miraculous human creation while every other sentence begins or ends with the name of God.
-
I kind of want…
I kind of want to recreate this on my personal site once I make one, just for giggles. "Temporarily able-bodied and cat parent in mental health recovery" always cracks me up.

That's done. I finally…
That's done. I finally have a working export that produces a file looking decent enough to submit unchanged. Luckily I don't have classes that require adherence to a specific style/template (it's just font size, line spacing serif/sans-serif, but nothing major), so I just did what looked best to me.
The hard part was making sure pandoc used a reference document for the styling without having to define every time. And also setting some other prefs in a default.yaml file.

Forcing myself to learn…
Forcing myself to learn Pandoc now so I don't have to put up with Word because of Zotero (and Zettlr requires me to know Pandoc anyway, ugh).

I went ice skating...
I went ice skating today for the first time in eight years. It was an exhilarating and freeing experience to just glide down the paths. 10/10 would do again.

online break
I kinda want to take the chance of this winter break and shut myself off the internet until NYE. I haven't been truly offline for more than a few hours in so long. Would be interesting to see what I would do. I would turn off my phone and put it in a drawer while my laptop would be in perpetual airplane mode.

Now that my blog…
Now that my blog moved to a subdomain in preparation for a site under the root, I was making sure stuff redirects correctly. However, the redirect through my DNS provider won't work when I connect the root to the site I'm planning to create. So I'll have to recreate the post slugs on my site and write some simple Javascript to redirect them to the blog. This seems like a good enough solution to me.

The first Wicked movie...
The first Wicked movie is so good. Just rewatched it and I've rarely enjoyed a rewatch as much. In fact, I liked it the second time more than the first since I didn't know the full story of The Wizard of Oz and how they relate to each other.

We place way too…
We place way too much emphasis on formal psychological diagnoses, identity labels and categories (like subcultures).

I miss when tech…
I miss when tech wasn't so depressing to use. I miss when I could look forward to future tech because it would improve upon the fascinating things we'd already created. It was never meant to last, but the dream—as long as it lasted—was nice. Now new tech means more surveillance. Every device is an eavesdropper and digitization in the public sphere means more injustice, not less. Even though the present looks bleak, I still have hope for the future.
